Jassie Gill is not just an actor or a singer, he’s become a phenomenon when it comes to social media as well. His new single called Pyaar mangdi has got a great response from his fans worldwide and is currently topping the charts. The Hindi film audience took notice of this gem of an actor in Panga, where he plays a supportive husband who’s ready to do all to help his wife achieve his dreams.

What inspired you to work on Pyaar mangdi?

Pyaar mangdi is a track with a beautiful and relatable message. It’s also so well in tune with the current scenario. We've come to realise that all we need to sustain life is love. If you are around your loved ones, nothing else matters. So far, I have received a lot of love and warmth for Pyaar mangdi. It is a romantic ballad and I hope people are connecting to the song.

In the initial stages of the lockdown, you were in India while your family was in Canada. How did you cope with the situation?

I'm a permanent resident of Canada. While the lockdown was on, I stayed in India for a few months but since my entire family was there in Canada. It is a world-wide pandemic and I, just like every other person was sailing in the same boat. We had a lot of pending work to sort out. I really missed them so after a couple of months, I came here to be with them. I live in Saskatchewan, Regina. This is near Alberta. People are behaving very responsibly here and the active cases are almost none in this city. So we are all safe right now.

In your last Hindi film outing Panga, you played the kind of husband that all women would pine for...

My audience has always given me a lot of love for my work. I was hoping to receive the same love and warmth for Panga and that was how it turned out. I really loved the character and it was a lot of fun shooting for that movie.

How do you balance working in both the Punjabi and Hindi industries?

I’ve not been able to give time to music for a long time because last year, time went by in the shoot for Happy and then Panga happened. I was also shooting for my Punjabi films. So, I couldn't contribute a lot of time to making music. That is why I started my own YouTube music channel so that I could skip the long procedure that involves releasing a single and just concentrate on making music. My channel is doing really well. I’m going to release another song soon. I've arranged for a studio set up here at home. I record everything here and even shoot here as well.

What’s the major difference between the two industries?

I don’t think there is much difference between Punjabi and Hindi film industries. The difference lies in the music industries. The Punjabi music industry is an independent entity not dependent on films. Whereas, most of the music produced in Hindi is majorly done for the movies. Otherwise, both the industries are equally amazing and I love working in both.

How has your professional life been affected by this pandemic?

The lockdown happened within two months of Panga being released. I started concentrating on music during this period. I have already released two music videos on this channel. The first one was with Shehnaaz (Gill), called Keh gayi sorry was a lyrical video and Ehna chauni aa which was a Punjabi music video. I shot for it at my home, using my iPhone. It got 40 million-plus views and I have gained 1 million subscribers on my channel. This is how productive and engaged I have been throughout the lockdown. The third video is yet to come out.
