The cows in Stardew Valley are adorable.
As a #progamer, my favorite pro gamer strat is to have a huge cheese empire for easy peasy profits.
Cheese presses aren’t too expensive to make by the end of the first year. So they offer a great way to make lots of passive income.
But what about mods to change things up a bit?
From strawberry milk and cheese tea, to flavored cows, we’ve got a little something for everyone who wants to grow their own dairy empire too!
10. Strawberry Milk Recipe
Stardew Valley has strawberries.
Stardew Valley has milk.
And now, Stardew Valley has strawberry milk!
Here’s a simple mod that adds a new recipe to the game for strawberry milk.
It can be purchased from Gus at the Saloon, and comes in an adorable glass bottle with a pink label and a cow. It isn’t a game changing mod or anything, but it’s definitely worth a download if you like your milk pink.
As a side note: can you imagine a better drink to bring along to the mines to keep your energy up? I can’t.
9. Holsteins
Here’s a simple visual switch that changes the white cows to Holsteins – or to use terms that most regular people are probably familiar with, the quintessential white and black cow.
And this mod is really well done.
It even has a sprite for the baby cows. They’re absolutely adorable!
I don’t think a dairy empire is complete without these cute cows, quite frankly.
8. Cuter Fatter Cows
There’s something about chubby animals that’s just so incredibly adorable.
And Cuter Fatter Cows simply replaces the vanilla cow sprites with much fatter ones, mostly inspired by the cows from Harvest Moon.
Plus they come in both a light and dark brown coat pattern.
Not only are the new adult cows cuter and fatter, but the baby ones are, too!
They’ll grow from a chunky little baby to a big chunky adult. It’s perfect!
7. Cheese Tea
Cheese tea is a delicacy in some parts of the world.
Usually it’s served as a savory foam on top of bubble tea or a similar kind of drink.
Well now we can add cheese tea as a recipe!
Do it all yourself by milking your cow, pressing your cheese, then bringing that cheese to a keg to make tea.
I know it sounds a little strange, but trust me, it’s worth it.
It sells for 560 gold, and has a pretty banging energy score with 125 energy points, 56 health points, and it even raises your maximum energy by 50.
I wish real cheese tea did all that IRL.
6. K’s Cow Replacers
There’s quite a few different mods available that change the sprites for your cows.
But I really like this one in particular.
This modder took inspiration from real life cows, so the art style is a little different than the usual one we see from Concerned Ape. But I really like it!
You’ll find cows with spots, stripes, belts, all sorts of designs, and they come in browns, blacks, reds, and blondes.
Definitely a lot of variations here so check it out for sure.
5. Pretty Cows
I didn’t realize that there was such a thing as pretty and unpretty cows.
But then I clicked on this mod, and now I understand.
This changes the vanilla cows into much prettier cows.
With brown & black spots and cute, pink noses, this is a definite visual improvement that I didn’t even realize we needed.
And your baby cows are also modded! A brown spotted calf will grow into a brown spotted calf, for example.
4. Pokémon Tauros Brown Cow Replacement
There are a LOT of Pokémon mods for Stardew Valley.
And it never fails to surprise me when I find a new one.
Here’s a simple visual update that changes all of the brown cows with a Tauros Pokémon sprite.
This is a little scary, honestly.
Tauros are known for being kind of violent, and I’d much rather try milking a Miltank than one of these bad boys.
I’m not even sure Tauros can be milked in the Pokémon universe?
Well they can in Stardew, though!
And the milk in-game still comes up as regular milk too, so don’t read into it too much.
3. Glass Milk Bottles
I’m not sure what’s going on with the milk portraits in the vanilla game, to be honest.
I know they’re meant to be jugs, but they look like weird sacks of milk and it just doesn’t do it for me.
Well this mod replaces the icon with pretty glass bottles.
There’s also different bottle designs depending on if the milk comes from a cow or a goat, as well as the size, and they’re all marked with a handy animal head for easy reading.
2. Alternative Milks
I don’t know about you, but I haven’t drank cow’s milk in years.
It’s pretty high in calories, expires quickly, and just doesn’t taste good to me.
Well if you want some alternate options in Stardew, this mod adds a new machine to make all sorts of different plant based milks!
Now you can use nuts, soy, coconut, and rice to create alternative dairy-free milks for consumption.
Note: this mod does work with other specific mods, which are all listed in the description on the NexusMods page.
1. Flavored Cows
Do brown cows make chocolate milk?
They do now!
Easily add a new kind of cow into Stardew with this mod. The new styles come in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, all in the form of brown, white, and pink cows, respectively.
It’s a super fun idea to be able to go outside with a glass and get fresh chocolate milk straight from the udder. Well I think so, anyway!
I know five year old me would have been absolutely delighted.
