DC The Don is an American rapper from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is currently signed to the family-owned label, Run Music. In 2017, he became popular after his first recorded track, Everything 1K, was featured in Lonzo Ball‘s first Big Baller Brand shoe commercial. In the coming years, he followed up with various hits including “GMFU,” “Walk Thru,” and “Freddy Krueger.”
Real name, Daijon Davis, he was born on August 3, 1999, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In a “small city” where everybody knows each other, he spent his early life living with his mother. In an interview, DC The Don explained that there were not many activities to do.
He described his upbringing as being normal. As a kid, his primary focus was playing basketball and finishing school. Unfortunately, he got kicked out of high school during his sophomore year. Consequently, his mother sent him away to California to stay with his father.
In Cali, he completed his junior and senior year at Chino Hills High School. After graduating HS, he moved to LA for good. Despite getting 2 scholarships, he dropped basketball during senior year to pursue music after he started getting money from his craft.
DC The Don has been writing raps since the age of 8 with his cousin. Initially, he learned to rap by observing his friends’ records, watching YouTube tutorials, and simply practicing. He grew up listening to the likes of Boyz II Men, Led Zeppelin, Fugees, and others.
CAREER
When DC The Don moved to California, at the age of 16, he started rapping immediately. At the same time, he was also hooping for Lavar Ball‘s Big Baller AAU basketball team. Under Lavar Ball, he played alongside LaMelo Ball and became extremely close with the trio of brothers. Soon after, he started making music with future LA Lakers point guard, Lonzo Ball.
His first recorded hit single, Everything 1K, was dropped in March 2017. After granting permission, Everything 1K, was featured in Lonzo Ball’s first BBB shoe commercial. As one might suspect, his name, image, and songs got a whole lot of attention and support. In an interview, he credited Lonzo for tipping the scale.
In a Different scenario, DC The Don received major traction after being featured on Lonzo’s album, Born 2 Ball (2018). As people became more interested in him, his music career starting blowing up. He starting raking in millions of streams and developed quite the following community on Instagram. Prior to the album release, he collaborated with Lonzo on the viral track, Free Smoke.
In 2018, DC The Don, took hip-hop by storm. When WSHH featured his “GMFU” music video in May 2018, his career took full flight. With 10 months under its belt, the track has an ongoing YouTube view count of 2.4 million coupled with an approval rating of 98%. Refusing to slow down, within weeks, he released other hit singles, Walk Thru, Freddy Krueger, and Kill Streak. Each track would accumulate over a million streams. His work has become a regular fixture on WSHH. Two of his latest works “3AM Freestyle” and “That Ain’t It Chief” alongside B. Lou have been making rounds on the internet.
Not only was DC the Don releasing singles on SoundCloud and YouTube, but he also dropped multiple projects throughout his young career span. In 2017, he released 5-track EP, Halloween on 47th St. The following year, he released projects “F*ck Hell” (Jan) and “DC Dahmer” (Oct). His last project was led by the popular single, Meet Whitney. He also has an album titled “Purple Hearted Lion” out.
